En este cortometraje de ciencia ficción de Sansour, un pueblo palestino tiene su Estado en forma de rascacielos: el Estado Nación. Una colosal torre que hospeda enteramente la población palestina y que ahora por fin viven la vida.
“En varios proyectos de los últimos años, he explorado no solo el género de la ciencia ficción, sino también el cómic del superheroe. Ambas formas tienen una inherente capacidad de hacer accesible las ambiciones más esenciales de un pueblo o una civilización en el sentido de que está naturalmente inspirado, pero nunca obstaculizado o restringido por una realidad no ficticia – haciendo un fantástico campo conceptual y filosófico. En el caso de Palestina, hay un eterno sentido de pronosticar la categoría de Estado, independencia y fin de la ocupación. Las ambiciosas ideas que los palestinos esperan conseguir se han convertido desde hace mucho en repetitivas; por ello la rara mezcla de la nostalgia y el logro que a menudo abarca el género de la ciencia ficción se adecua bien a esta temática” (Larissa Sansour).
In Sansour’s sci-fi short, Palestinians have their state in the form of a single skyscraper: the Nation Estate. One colossal high-rise houses the entire Palestinian population – now finally living the high life (Mec film).
“In several projects over the past years, I have explored not only the sci-fi genre, but also the comic book superhero. Both forms have an inherent ability to make accessible the most fundamental ambitions of a people or a civilization in a way that is naturally inspired by, but never hampered or restricted by a non-fictional reality – making them fantastic conceptual and philosophical playground. In the case of Palestine, there is an eternal sense of forecasting statehood, independence and the end of occupation. The ambitious ideas Palestinians hope to achieve have long since become so repetitive that the odd mix of nostalgia and accomplishment that the sci-fi genre often embodies lends it itself well to the topic” (Larissa Sansour).
