En Jordania, un tipo distinto de cambio está en marcha con miles de refugiados que fluyen por la frontera de Palestina… When I Saw You es la historia de un pueblo afectado por los tiempos que le envuelven, en busca de algo más en sus vidas. Un viaje lleno de aventura, amor, humor y deseo de ser libre, pero sobre todo es la historia de ese momento en la vida de una persona que despierta y se encuentra que todo el mundo está abierto y todo es posible, ese momento en que te sientes más vivo. Es el viaje del espíritu humano que no conoce fronteras.
“Quiero rendir homenaje a los fedayeen [combatientes]. La película hace referencia a películas palestinas concretas de ese periodo, fotografías e incluso escritos, y tampoco quería eludir ser romántica en relación al tema. Me cuestiono cosas pero a su vez respecto mucho lo que hacían. Eran jóvenes, idealistas que soñaban con un mundo mejor. Y no eran solo palestinos sino que procedían de otras partes del mundo árabe, de Europa, de China, eran de todas partes _era un movimiento internacional. ¿Por qué los cineastas palestinos no pueden tener cierto romanticismo hacia ello? Algunas personas dicen: ¿Cómo puede haber romanticismo hacia estos combatientes? ¿Pero entonces por qué aceptan el romanticismo del Che Guevara? Cuando se trata de él está bien, pero cuando se trata de nuestros chicos, no está bien” (Annemarie Jacir).

In Jordan, a different kind of change is underway as tens of thousands of refugees pour across the border from Palestine… When I Saw You is the story of people affected by the times around them, in search of something more in their lives. A journey full of adventure, love, humor, and the desire to be free, but most of all this is a story about that moment in a person’s life when he wakes up and finds the whole world is open and everything is possible – that moment you feel most alive. It is a journey of the human spirit that knows no borders.
“I do want to pay homage to them [the feda’i]. The film refers to specific Palestinian films from that time period, photographs and even writings. And I didn’t want to shy away from being romantic about it, too. I have questions for them, but I also really respect what they were doing. They were young, idealistic people that dreamed of a better world. And they were not just Palestinians, they were from other parts of the Arab world, they were from Europe, they were from China, they were from all over the place — it was an international movement. And why not as Palestinian filmmakers be romantic about that? Some people say, how can you be romantic about these fighters? But why do they accept being romantic about Che Guevara? When it’s about him it’s ok, but when it’s about our guys, it’s not OK” (Annemarie Jacir).
